From the Sept. 21 entry over at
bending_sickle: Not even the most imaginative storytelling could get me to accept a [Gladiator's Commodus/Maximus] fic in the movie's storyline. Before the storyline, however, is another matter.
Something awful has happened: I now have an idea. I hate how easly I'll come up with scenes and emotions I'd want to include into a fic, but the ever-elusive plot won't surrender to me and then there's the actual typing out of the story, which is even harder.
The idea:
Asomewhat twisted love-triangle, featuring Commodus, his sister Lucilla and Maximus, set long before the film, when Luscilla and Maximus are still together. Elements that gave rise to the idea:
1) Maximus and Luscilla were together a long time ago and cared for each other deeply, but broke up to the mutual hurt of both.
2) Commodus considered Maximus his friend, or at least good acquaintance, to judge from the friendly way he salutes Maximus after the war with Germania. (Maximus, however, is always aloof to Commodus.)
3) Commodus is hopelessly in love with his sister.
4) Personal experience: Sisters really can forgive their brother anything.
Thus the story would be about the breaking up of Maximus and Luscilla, and Commodus being caught in the middle. A very introspective story focusing on their emotions, alliances, and the patterns people fall into when in a relationship. Also jealosy, but not quite so much. Political intrigue less, but at least a hint of it.
...and I just relized now that the plot-bunny had no slash whatsoever.
Damn.
