“You fucking cunt!” she spat, her voice eerily low.
The room was quiet for a moment then Mal spoke: “I’m going to make a leap here and figure that wasn’t the best thing to say.”
Beth kept her eyes locked on Maul.
“You don’t think, do you?” she continued, her voice down to almost a whisper, though the anger in it could still be heard. “You never actually stop and think about things.”
Mal wished to God he had his gun strapped on.
Maul still didn’t say anything. He simply stood there, his face inches from Beth’s, with no expression at all. He was waiting Beth out, Mal realized.
Of course, neither man was prepared for the cold fury in Beth’s next statement.
“No wonder you took the kamikaze.” Beth grit her teeth. “Ten thousand years for the emperor.”
The words, of course, made little sense to them. Maul cocked his head, though, reacting to Beth’s diatribe for the first time. He narrowed his eyes as he considered her words again.
That look broke though Beth’s shield of anger better than anything he could have said.
