Tagline: Those from Above forgot the pact, and those from Below want to break it.
Summary: This deals with Upworlders and Those of the Dark, the age-long pact that few remember and some want to break. It also deals with the unwritten pact that forms between one from Above and one from Below, and the blood shed between them
Note: Snippets have a wonderful way of telling their own story without really requiring the blanks in the middle to be told.
~~
You throw words like “mercy” and “pacts” as if they had no worth. Do you know how we make pacts, bird? With blood. Pacts are made and broken, but blood stains and cannot be washed clean.
~~
“We do not write on scrolls. They burn too easily, or are lost. They break. This, this is where we write our promises, keep our word—” She drew back her sleeves and exposed her belly to him. “You may break the pact, but the words, these scars, cannot be taken back.”
~~
Anything you, Upworlder, bury, we take. You’re treasure, your secrets, and your dead.
~~
Neither of the two knew when the pact had been set, or where. They had only the vaguest sense of what it entailed. But because they knew of its existence, they each let the other pass without bloodshed.
~~
What is the purpose of this curse for something to follow and haunt, to tie something to you yet not serve, to hate you yet accompany?
